22 Law/Paralegal Technology - Vocabulary list terms
As of today, I am in the Social Science program. I'm in this program for almost a year now, and I plan to stay for another year. I'd like to, after Cegep, go study in law or paralegal program. I've never known any of the vocabularies from this field, so that's what my glossary will be about. Law and paralegal program will allow me to represent in legal activities a client. Also, my role in my future job will be to defend before, during, and after a legal procedure, in addition, to advise in different situations a client. Learning all these new words will be a challenge, but with time and practice, I know that I'll finally know them by heart. Doing this glossary will help me learn a few of the words for my future profession.
Accused
verb
A person or group of people who are charged with criminal accusations.
Example: Evelyn accused Josh of stealing her almost 600 dollars, while she was sleeping.

Assault
noun
Make a physical attack on someone.
Example: The assault Carrie suffered left her bruised.

Burglar
noun
A person who commits burglary; housebreaker.
Example: Last night, while Corinne was away, a burglar broke into her house and took all of her jewelry.

Civil Code of Quebec
noun
The civil code in force in the Province of Quebec, Canada.
Example: The Civil Code of Quebec came into effect on January 1, 1994.

Crime scene
noun
The locality where a crime is committed or a cause of action occurs.
Example: The crime scene is next to the bank.

Guilty
adjective
Culpable of or responsible for a specified crime.
Example: The jury found Julie guilty on all charges.

Incarceration
noun
The state of being confined in prison; imprisonment.
Example: Toby was sentenced to 10 years of incarceration.

Interlocutory judgement
noun
A judgment that determines a preliminary or side issue in the case, but does not finally decide the case.
Example: They did an interlocutory judgment while Tina's case was about to close.

Lawsuit
noun
A proceeding in a court of law brought by one party against another.

Capable of causing death.

Manslaughter

The unlawful killing of a human being without express or implied malice.

Notary

Offense
noun

Probation

The release of an offender from detention because of good behavior under supervision.
Example: Linda is on probation after having good behavior in jail. She is out, but she can't do everything she wants, otherwise, they'll have to send her back to jail.

Prosecutor

Testimony

An official declaration by a witness under oath in response to interrogation by a lawyer or authorized public official.
Example: Juliette had to go to the police station today to give a testimony about what happened at the party last week.

noun
